Many people suffer from seemingly unrelated health issues that they deal with for years. These symptoms often express themselves in different forms or severity but the result is not being able to live a full and energetic life.

How Lifestyle, Stress, and Gut Health are Interconnected

All of us have stress, and it comes in different forms. We all know about the stress of work deadlines or caring for family, among other things. Although our bodies are smart machines, they don’t distinguish the difference between “good” stress and “bad” stress, or the stress our body undergoes from not getting enough sleep or skipping meals. We are designed to handle short-term stress, but when it continues for long periods of time, a slippery slope begins and our bodies start breaking down. By the time we feel the symptoms, the damage has already begun.

In very simple terms, when your gut —your digestive system—isn’t functioning properly, a slew of problems start. One of the first things to break down is the intestinal wall resulting in leaky gut. Leaky gut can cause many symptoms such as fatigue, depression, allergies, weight issues, female hormone imbalances, bloating, constipation, skin rashes. The list goes on. Medications, alcohol, food allergies, and pollutants can also affect digestive health. Bacteria and parasites can cause digestive issues. Even good bacteria can cause problems when they are out of balance. And surprise, parasites are not uncommon in the US. Lab testing can be used to determine what is going on in there.

Watch Susanne’s Transformation Story

“I was feeling pretty rotten after a bad case of South of the Border food poisoning last spring.

I kept hoping it would get better – that if I took probiotics and ate enough fermented food, I’d get those all-important healthy bacteria back to flourishing in my gut.

Nothing worked.

A few months into my misery, 8750ALT trainer, Julie Harrington started commenting on my mounting listlessness, and suggested a test for the intestinal parasites she suspected were making me miserable.

Sure enough, there was an off-the-charts level of H Pylori bacteria in my digestive tract – something that, untreated, can cause ulcers and in some cases even lead to stomach cancer.

Julie put me on a classic anti-inflammatory diet for ten days, after which we started adding back forbidden foods – coffee, grains, dairy, sugar, wine and nightshades – one at a time, to see what I could tolerate, along with a list of easy-to-get supplements to soothe my gurgling gut.

Two months later, I’m happy to report, all is well.

There have been some major changes. I no longer drink coffee, eat very little sugar and avoid beans (unless they’re sprouted) and nightshade vegetables. I’ve cut way back on dairy (tip: replace whole milk with homemade concentrated almond milk for your breakfast tea or coffee; mine has the texture of heavy cream). When I eat animal products, I seek out free-range and non-GMO; in restaurants, I mostly order salads, veggies and salmon. I have a few new theories about food: coconut milk and coconut oil should be a food group unto themselves; every refrigerator should have a jug of aloe juice for smoothies; and sliced avocados with a little lemon, which can gussy up even the simplest meal.” M. 8750’s Approach to Health Coaching

We have a functional approach to health meaning we look at how all areas of life contribute to health. Are you getting enough sleep? What is the quality of the food you are eating? Are you getting enough exercise, or maybe too much? What is your stress level like?

Many of us assume that health, or lack of it, is out of our control. When we get sick, we go to the doctor. And if that doesn’t help, then what? Realize that you have the power to affect your health! With the guidance of a health coach you can improve and maximize your health.

This journey begins with an in-depth health assessment questionnaire. After completing and returning the questionnaire you will meet with your health coach to review the results and come up with a plan to reach your health goals. No cookie-cutter programs, we will work with you to create an individualized therapeutic program. No one else is like you! After four weeks you will again meet with your health coach to assess progress. During those weeks you will have access to the coach by phone, email, or texting if you have any questions or concerns.

Health Coaching Prices:

Initial Consultation – $200.00

The initial consultation is a minimum of two hours: the first hour will be a review of the health assessment and the second hour will be a follow-up at a later time after you have started your program to check on progress and make any needed changes. This also includes unlimited phone calls, email, or texting.

Hourly Rate – $85.00

If you would like you can continue the coaching relationship as long as needed. Some folks find the initial consultation to be adequate with maybe a tune-up later, while others will find they need more time.
